Melvin Wayne Sanders, 77, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4th at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Oak Grove; burial in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Emma, MO. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 266 ℅ Dorothy Sanders. Melvin was born November 19, 1945, in Alma, Missouri, the son of Marvin W. and Leona (Elliott) Sanders. He was a member of the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. Melvin married Dorothy L. Bergmann on August 9, 1969. He worked for Armco Steel for 30 years and then drove a school bus for 5 years. Melvin enjoyed fishing, traveling up north to the boundary waters, and traveling with friends all over the country. He made over 15 trips to Canada to fish. He was a great storyteller and would tell his stories to anyone who would listen.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dale and Roger Sanders; sister, Cheryl Sanders; and brother-in-law, Bob Warren.
His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Sanders of the home; two sons: Chris Sanders (Rachael) of Oak Grove, MO, and Alan Sanders (Gabriella) of Lee’s Summit, MO; four grandsons: Cody, Morgan, Jake, and Cooper; sister, Joyce Langkrahr of Concordia, MO; brother, Jerry Sanders of Independence, MO; sister-in-law, Lois Warren of Blue Springs, MO; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
