Michael Caviness


Michael Caviness, 63, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully Thursday March 13, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones while listening to his favorite music. He was taken from us far too soon, but his impact on our lives will never be forgotten.

Michael was born on July 21st, 1961, to David and Connie Caviness. Michael graduated from Fort Osage High School class of 1979. He joined the Navy in January 1985 and became a Machinist Mate 1st Class Petty Officer (MM1). He served on the battleship USS New Jersey BB-62 and guided the USS England CG-22 missile. He ended his Navy career in Lubbock Texas in 1993 and moved back to be with family in Missouri. After his military service he started working for Ford as a pipefitter until he retired in 2024 after 31 years of service. He had a passion for traveling, especially if he was able to ride his motorcycle wherever the road may take him.  Mike cherished every opportunity to explore new places and make memories with his loved ones.

He is survived by his parents David and Connie Caviness; wife Rosie Caviness; son, Nick Caviness (Sarah), daughters Rebecca Caviness-Branscom (Mitch) and Katie Caviness, Stepchildren Eric Snyder (Maristela), and Hannah Elliott. A beloved “Motorcycle Papa” to 12 grandchildren, Caden, Chloe, Caiya, Leah, Hailey, Colby, Lotus, Alexus, Harlee, Zoe, Livi and Kai. Sisters Teresa Eskelinen, Mandy Harness (Bryon) Brothers Christopher Caviness and Robert Caviness (Tami).
