Nita Fay Harms, 70, of Oak Grove, MO, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at Centerpoint Medical Center, Independence. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, July 1 at Royer’s Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday at Faith Community Church, 102 SW 9 Street, Oak Grove, MO; burial following at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.
Nita, known to her family and friends as Fay, was born March 11, 1943 in Oak Grove, MO, the daughter of Alvin & Juanita (Morris) Grote. She was baptized November 28, 1954. Fay married Frederick Harms on April 29, 1962 at her parent’s home. Fay has worked as a prep cook at Golden Corral in Blue Springs, MO and at Casey’s North in Oak Grove, MO. She was a member of the Faith Community Church. She enjoyed painting, reading, fishing, collecting porcelain chickens, and playing games.
Preceding Fay in death were her parents; two sisters: Joy Marie Grote & Dora Lee Grote; her step-mother: Frances Grote; and step-brother: Dennis Costigan.
Her survivors include her husband of 51 years, Frederick Harms of the home; two sons & daughters-in-law: Randall & Jeana Harms, of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and Darrin & Valerie Harms, of Blue Springs; one brother & sister-in-law: Roy & Dinah Grote of Oak Grove; two step-brothers: Pat Costigan & Mike Costigan, both of Oak Grove; two step-sisters: Mary Beth Zink & husband Charlie of Clinton and Donna Costigan of Kansas City, MO; and one step-sister-in-law: Connie Costigan of Oak Grove.
