Norman J. Maynard


Norman James Maynard, 88, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Friday, December 8, 2017.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 13th at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence; burial in New Salem Cemetery, Independence.  The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Veterans Assistance League at the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, MO.

Norman was born June 14, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Oscar and Ophia (Owens) Maynard.  He was a US Marine Veteran, serving during WW2.  Norman worked as a Carman for Missouri Pacific Railroad, and belonged to the Railroad Retirement Association.  He enjoyed making ceramics and macramé, and was part of the Gudgell McDonalds morning coffee club.

Norman is survived by his four children: Debra Peak (Danny) of Meza AZ, Michael Maynard (Leanne) of Blue Springs, MO, Don Brockman (Jeanie) of Weatherby Lake, MO, and Ron Brockman of Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren: Brandice, Shandylinn, Travis, Robin, Steve, Chris, and Jason; and ten great-grandchildren: Lauren, Ashley-Renee, John, Joe, Tym, Rudy, Camron, Nariah, William and Solara.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and one grandson Eric.

  2. We are deeply saddened by the passing of Norman. He was a wonderful uncle. His smile said it all He always had one and made everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him feel like smiling also. Our thought and prayers to all of his family. Bob and Sheila Johnson.
