Norman Walter Bauer, 91, of Odessa, MO, formerly of Warrensburg, MO, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018. Services will be held Wednesday, January 10th at Royer Funeral Home in Oak Grove, MO, with visitation from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., and memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 12:00 p.m. in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lutheran Good Shepherd Home in Concordia, MO.
Norman was born May 5, 1926, in Stover, Missouri, the son of Walter A. and Clara M. (Luebbert) Bauer. He grew up in the Blackburn, MO, area. He entered the Navy in 1944 and served on board the USS Curtiss until 1946. His awards during this time were: Asiatic Pacific (1 star), American, & the Victory Medal. Norman was a member of the American Legion for at least 35 years, was a VFW Honor Guard in Warrensburg and Commander for 1 year with a Lifetime VFW membership. He was Auto-Body Foreman for several dealerships in Higginsville and Warrensburg before teaching at the Vo-Tech School in Warrensburg and receiving the National I-Car Educator plaque before he retired in 1991. He continued to be a member of the MO Retired Teachers Association.
Norman was a faithful member of Bethlehem Synod Lutheran Church in Warrensburg for 1957 to 2004, and served as VP, Elder, Trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Higginsville at his time of passing.
Norman’s survivors include his wife, Betty (Williams) of the home; his daughter, Patricia Graybill (Lynn) of Knob Noster, MO; his son, Tim Bauer (Karen) of Concordia, MO; his stepson, Ron Williams (Lisa) of Odessa; his sister, Barbara Royer (Pete) of Oak Grove; 2 sisters-in-law: Ruby Dean Frerking of Concordia, and Joyce Kuhl of Lubbock, TX; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Margie Bredehoeft; his son, Paul; and his parents.
Norman loved his family deeply, and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and telling funny stories. He truly loved life in general and will be greatly missed.

5 Aug 2020So sorry to learn of Norman’s passing. He and my dad Edwin “Jake” Stoecklin had recently reconnected at LGSH. They had worked together at Ziems and Grother and he and Margie were Godparents to my brother Gary. He will be missed. Sending prayers of peace and comfort to the entire family.
