Beverly S. Lewis

Beverly Sue “Toody” Lewis (née Simcosky), September 23, 1934 – October 7, 2026, passed away peacefully leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories. Born in Independence, MO, she was the beloved daughter of Harold and Martha Simcosky.

Toody grew up in Independence and attended local schools, graduating from William Chrisman High School. During her school years, she fondly recalled her daily walks to and from school, which took her past the historic home of President Harry S. Truman.

A woman of sharp intellect and exceptional organizational skills, Beverly built a distinguished career as an executive secretary. Over the years, she lent her talents to several notable companies, including Vendo, ISIS Foods, and Ford New Holland. During her time at Russell Stover, she served as the personal secretary to Mrs. Stover herself.

Upon retiring, Beverly dedicated her time to her community, volunteering for organizations such as Junior Achievement. She was a voracious reader who always had a book nearby, and she possessed a lifelong passion for playing bridge, a game she enjoyed with her dear, longtime friends up until very recently. She also had a deep love for cats, who brought great comfort and companionship to her life.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Martha Simcosky, and her beloved husband of 47 years, Frank Lewis, who passed away in 2024.

She is survived by her loving children, Martha Thompson and her husband Todd, Connie Tanner and her husband Mark, and David Stewart and his wife Julie; and her devoted brother, Harold Kent Simcosky, and his wife Ruth Ann.

She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Jason and Nicole Waters, Eric and Heather Waters, Ryan and Alexis Waters, Chris and Rachel Tanner, Sonja and Shay Tanner, Bethany Stewart (and Cal), and Dana Stewart and Zach Schwab; and her adored great-grandchildren, Alex, Piper, Tristan, Kohen, Ry, Scarlett, and Apollo, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. The family requests that no flowers be sent.
