Loretta L. Cotton

Loretta Lee (Butler) Cotton, 69, of Lee’s Summit, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, at Blue Hills Rest Home.

Born on December 24, 1956, to Herbert and Beverly Butler, Loretta grew up in Lee’s Summit and graduated from Lee’s Summit High School in 1975. Pursuing a lifelong passion for caring for others, she earned her LPN through the Jennie Lund School of Nursing and dedicated the majority of her life to the nursing profession.

On January 8, 1978, Loretta married the love of her life, Paul Cotton. Together, they built a home grounded in love, shelter, and selflessness. Over the years, Loretta and Paul opened their hearts to more than 100 foster children, officially adopting nine. Aside from her dedicated nursing career, being a mother and raising her family was Loretta’s single greatest joy.

Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Cotton; her son, Joseph; her mother, Beverly Butler Brown; her father, Herbert Butler; her sister, Herberta Hadlock; and her daughter-in-law, Patsy Cotton.

She is survived by her devoted children: David Cotton, Lil Paul Cotton, Glen Cotton (Brittney), Helen Williamson, Demetria Cotton, Kristina Mayfield, Brenda Cotton, and Jenisha Edwards; her loving siblings: Wanda Reinbold, Barbara Baldridge, Rex Butler (Jennie), Shirley Falls, Evelyn Brown, Schery Svenson (Lennart), and Regina Brown; her 18 cherished grandchildren: Chrishawna, Lane, Sabre (Branden), Cherokee, Olivia (William), Lakota, Arianna, Jose, Gracie, Noah, Maya, Ava, Zaryza, Avia, Josiah, Ellyanna, Lexie, and Darren; her 8 precious great-grandchildren: Olliyander, Amity, Zephyrus, Elijah, Jason, Felix, Myra, and River; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
