Peggy A. Cotter

Peggy Ann Cotter, 71, of Independence, Missouri, suddenly passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at her home.

An informal celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home in Independence, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Peggy was born on May 4, 1955, in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Barney “Boone” Brunetti Jr. and Ruby Brunetti and stepdaughter of Dale Wier. She graduated from Northeast High School, Class of 1973.

Peggy and her first husband, Craig Cotter, were blessed with two children, Brenton and Cara.

More than anything, she loved her family. She was a wonderful mother to her two children and worked incredibly hard throughout her life to make sure they were cared for and had what they needed. Her children always knew how deeply they were loved. She leaves behind her son, Brenton Cotter (Stephanie), and grandson Boston; her daughter, Cara Cotter; and granddaughters Laynee and Jamison Wiseman. Peggy had four step-grandchildren that she also thought of as her own. Brayden and Benjamin Heil and Richard and Trinity Wiseman.

Her grandchildren held an especially precious place in her heart. She wished more than anything that her health had allowed her to spend more time with them, but there was never any question how much she adored them or how proud she was to be their grandma.

Peggy also had a special love for Labrador Retrievers and dogs in general and was looking forward to getting another dog upon retirement. Peggy enjoyed cross-stitch, crochet, sewing, and reading. She was also a dedicated employee throughout her working career and took pride in doing her job well.

Peggy spent much of her life dealing with significant health challenges including Diabetes and in more recent years stage 4 Kidney Disease. Despite everything her body put her through, Peggy kept fighting and after all those years of diabetes and kidney disease, she still managed to leave this world with all of her fingers and all of her toes.

Peggy was unable to be an organ donor herself, however, her family’s wish is for anyone able to be an organ donor to consider the gift of donation.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a nephew, and a niece.

Peggy will be deeply missed by the people who knew and loved her and the family hopes she can finally be at rest. As the last surviving sibling in her family, her passing closes a chapter of a family generation while leaving behind the love, memories, traditions, and family they created. She will be remembered for her gentle heart, her kindness, her love for her family, and the quiet way she cared for the people around her. Her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but the love she gave so freely will remain with her family always.
