Phyllis Sue Stephens, 70, of Independence, Missouri passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026.  The family will hold a private graveside service at Buckner Hill Cemetery.  

She was born on August 30, 1955 in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Henry and Nancy Stephens. 

Chuck Hamilton, a childhood friend of Phyllis, remembered all the times they spent together working at the family farm; riding horses, milking 3 cows, gathering eggs, and all the sweet corn they picked and bagged to take to the city market to sell. Chuck shared that Phyllis could outwork him at times, and he treasured the many memories they made together on the farm.

Phyllis enjoyed drawing and creating paintings. She earned a CNA certificate and worked at a local nursing home.

She was proceeded in death by her father, Henry L. Stephens; mother, Nancy, Stephens; her brother, Phillip K. Stephens; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Phyllis is survived by nieces and nephews, the children of her brother, Phillip.
