Rebecca M. Leath, 95 of Independence, MO, passed away December 18, 2024. Rebecca May Leath was born on April 30, 1929, in Oak Grove, MO to Francis and Kay (Herrington) McQuerry. She graduated from Halls Memorial High School in Buckner in the Class of 1947. “Becky” was talented in many ways and had several different jobs throughout her lifetime. Her primary career was spent at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant where she worked in the Laboratory. She also held jobs at Allis Chalmers and the Independence Center Food Court among others.
In her first marriage, Becky was blessed with two sons, Doug Jones and Greg Jones. They were the true joy of her life, and she was steadfast in her love, care, and support of their endeavors. Becky helped Doug to run a successful auto repair and sales shop in Oak Grove for several years. Both boys were highly skilled auto mechanics, and Becky was skilled in organization, scheduling, and sales.
On July 29, 1996, Becky married Charles V. Leath of Independence, and they enjoyed a wonderful life together until he passed away on May 7, 2004. She was also close to many of her relatives and loved spending time going to garage sales and thrift stores, having red hat parties, baking, and doing crafts. Becky was a diehard K.C. Royals fan and never wanted to miss watching their games.
Becky made new & lasting friendships wherever she lived – most recently at New Beginnings in Liberty, MO, and Baptist Homes of Independence, MO. She quickly became a fond resident because of her joyful spirit and easy smile but also because she regularly handed out Cokes and Chocolates to people who helped and visited her. Becky was a faithful servant of God who rarely missed attending worship on Sundays. She loved gospel music, Christian hymns and specifically the song “Because He Lives” which she related to so much after losing both of her sons & many other loved ones years before her own passing into glory.
Becky was dearly loved by her family and friends, and she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Kay McQuerry; siblings, Norman McQuerry, Hasseltine “Sis” Rumbo, Erma Hay, and Ruben McQuerry; husband, Charles Leath; and sons, Doug Jones and Greg Jones. She is survived by a host of grandkids, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for the family in January. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Baptist Homes of Independence, 17451 Medical Center Pkwy, Independence, MO 64057.
