Robert D. “Bob” Wright, 93 of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021 at Wilshire at Lakewood Care Center in Lee’s Summit. Graveside Services will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO later in July.
Bob was born May 19, 1928 to Isom and Florence Wright just outside of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Bob went into the Army in July 1946 and was honorably discharged in March 1947. He attended Draughon’s Business College in Little Rock, studying accounting and graduated with an associate’s degree in 1950. He met and married the love of his life, Nina Hughes, that same year. Bob had enlisted in the National Guard and his unit was called up in July 1951 and he was on active duty in the Air Force until May of 1953, stationed at various posts in the U.S.
He started working for the Milk Market Administration in Arkansas as an auditor, later moving to the Kansas City, MO area and advancing to Assistant Administrator and finally to the position of Market Administrator by the end of his 30-year employment. He retired in 1986.
Bob enjoyed camping, boating and fishing on various lakes in MO with his family throughout the children’s growing up years. He was a coach for his son Tom’s baseball teams for several years. Bob & Nina were avid square dancers beginning in the 1970’s and into their retirement years. He and Nina traveled around the country in an RV for many years, finally settling in south Texas in the winters and several years ago moved to MO to be near family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Korbee Brock and his two brothers, Bill Wright & Jake Wright.
He is survived by his wife Nina, his children Teresa (Jim) Leacock and Tom (Dawn) Wright, grandchildren: Christy (Tim) Berry, Andrew Leacock, Rachel (John) Junio and Rob (Molly) Wright and great-grandchildren: Galena, Caleb, Luke, Ila Kate and Jackie. He is also survived by his sister Ruby Spires, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
