Robert L. Couch Jr.


Robert Lee “Bob” Couch, Jr., 83 of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2017.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 21st at First Christian Church, 701 NW 15th Street, Blue Springs; burial in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Odessa, MO.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mr. Tabor Cemetery or Central Auto Racing Booster Club.

Bob was born December 6, 1933, in Odessa, MO, the son of Robert Lee Sr. and Celestia Elvira (Willard) Couch.  He graduated from Odessa High School in 1952.  After 32 years of faithful service, Bob retired from ACF Industries

(Shipper’s Car Lines) in 1993.  He enjoyed midget and sprint car racing with his best friend, Howard House, and is honored at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa with a name-engraved brick.  Bob loved to travel and was fortunate enough to visit 47 states.  He also enjoyed country-western music and dancing, fishing in Canada, deer hunting and golf.   

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Richard Couch.  He is survived by his children Steve Couch (Debbie) of Odessa, Bryan Couch (Michelle) of Richmond, MO, Mark Couch (Kim) of Webb City, MO, and Brenda Ahring of Blue Springs; four sisters: Doris McCartney of Independence, MO, Lois Goetz (George) of Corder, MO, Lola Hawthorne (Vernon) of Odessa, and Laura Nolte of Higginsville, MO; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
