Ronnie E. Smith


Ronnie E. Smith, 71, of Independence, MO passed away on Thursday August 17, 2023. He was born January 2, 1952, in Kansas City, Mo. To Cletus and Marion (Moore) Smith. Services are scheduled for September 1, 2023 visitation 9am and funeral to follow at 10am at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home 1823 N Blue Mills Rd, Independence, Mo 64058

Ronnie was a member of the St Marks United Methodist church. He worked for MODOT for 20 years before he retired in 2014.  Ronnie joined Boy scouts in 1995 and was a scoutmaster for Troop 492 for 11 years. He always enjoyed doing the tree lot (19 years) and Missouri town along with organizing and setting up many activities, campouts and fundraisers, served as a committee chairman along with maintenance staff at H. Roe Bartle summer camp for many years in his 28 years of scouting and much more. He was an honored warrior of the Micosay Tribe and was given his name “Father of Quick flying bald eagle”, he had earned his wood badge.  He was a mentor to many boys and helped them achieve their eagle scout. He left an impact on everyone and anyone that crossed his path and always full of knowledge to share with the boys, loved teaching and passing on his knowledge.

Ronnie loved his John Wayne and western movies. He loved hunting, fishing, lake, camping and mostly anything outdoors. He loved taking his grandkids to the fishing derby’s, hunting, camping and teaching them how to do all things in life. He was a character for sure, always had a sense of humor even up till the last day. He would play Santa for the preschool, tree lot and many other places that would ask him for many years.  Most of all the love he had for our mother was a love that was an eternal and everlasting love.

Ronnie is survived by his son Christopher (Jamie) Smith of Independence, MO, his daughter Tina Wulff of Independence, MO, 5 grandkids: Kalina, Elaina, Jennifer, Alexander and Savannah. His brother James Smith of Wasola, Mo, his sister Karen Jacobs of independence, Mo. Nieces, nephews and cousins plus many more family and friends.
