Russell E. Moore

Russell Edward Moore, 75, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024.  A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence, Missouri.

Russ was born on February 23, 1948, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Russell and Elizabeth (Carr) Moore.  Russ was a member of the law enforcement community for most of his career. As part of his time with the police department, he enjoyed interfacing with the community as a D.A.R.E officer. He loved music, especially playing the guitar. He instilled his love of music in his grandchildren, teaching many of them to play guitar.  In his earlier years, he played in several bands, including one with his brother, George. When he wasn’t playing his guitar, Russ could be found enjoying time on the lake bass fishing with his son Bill or teaching the grandchildren to fish for crappie.  Russ loved a good meal, a good whiskey, and an opportunity for a good conversation. He did not know a stranger for long.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepdaughter, Heather Stratford and grandson, Zachary Magri.

Russ is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter, Nicki Moore; son, Bill (Jamie) Moore; son, Dan Stratford; brother, George (Cathy) Moore; and nephew, Jeremy (Shawna) Hart.

Russ is survived by his grandchildren: Jessica (Jason) Magri, Noah Magri, Brittany (Kelly) Stufflebean, Anthony (Ashley) Hawkins, Jordan (Jimmy) Williams, Blake Moore, Tyler (Coral) Stratford, Madison (Tasos) Hernandez, Eli Canella, Eva Stratford, Juliet Stratford, Raelee Wright, Beau (Abby) Wright; great nephew Andrew Hart; and 12 great grandchildren
