Ruth Ann Carmichael, 84, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019. A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 20th at New Liberty Baptist Church, 32310 County Hwy 8-S, Oak Grove, MO 64075. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Liberty Baptist Church or to Phoenix Hospice in Independence, MO.
Ruth was born on September 22, 1934, in Sedalia, Missouri, the daughter of Roy and Leah (Holst) Fender. She taught in Richmond prior to her marriage to James on May 22, 1960. Together Ruth and James raised five children on their family farm. Their family was recognized as farm family of the year in Jackson County. Additionally, they were co-owners of a western wear store with Ruth’s brothers Jimmie and David before owning Tarsney Country Store and J&R Hauling together. Ruth spent time admiring her garden and watching her beloved cardinals visit their bird feeders. She and James were blessed to travel around the world together and to extend their love of travel to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren before spending ten years of winters in Texas. Being snowbirds, they made new friends and enjoyed their golden years. She was a lifelong attendee of the Missouri State Fair in her hometown of Sedalia, Missouri.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Carmichael of the home; her brother, David Fender (Pat) of Lee’s Summit, MO; three children: LeeAnn Snodgrass (Rick) of Oak Grove, Pamela Wilson (Kenny) of Leeton, MO, and Ronald Carmichael of Belton, MO; seven grandchildren: Justin Shouse, Brooke Krekeler, Travis Snodgrass, Jamie Wilcox, Ashley Basinger, Stephen Carmichael, and Kyle Carmichael; and three great-grandchildren: Colton Wilcox, Leah Krekeler, and CJ Snodgrass. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Jimmie Fender.
