S. Colleen Fristoe

Shirley Colleen Fristoe passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2017 at her home in Lee’s Summit, MO. Colleen was born on August 8, 1937 in Big Cabin, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Hiram T. Elliott, and Minnie Jewel Trickey. Colleen was the youngest of 11 children. 

Colleen was proceeded in death by her parents, 10 brothers and sisters, her husband, Donald Clyde Fristoe, and a daughter-in-law, Asha Monique Fristoe. She leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Ann Bergmann and William Charles (Bill) Bergmann, of Lee’s Summit, MO, and a son, Robert Daniel Fristoe, of Kansas City, MO. Colleen had two granddaughters, Amanda Fuller and Shelbie Bartlett. She had one grandson, Bryce Williams. She had three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Colleen also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Colleen was a registered member of the Cherokee Nation, and was very proud of her heritage. In her younger years, Colleen enjoyed frequent trips to Tahlequah, OK to participate in the Cherokee National Holiday Powwow.

Colleen attended cosmetology school at Independence School of Cosmetology, and became a licensed beautician. Later she worked at St. Mary’s Manor in Blue Springs, MO as the front desk receptionist.

Colleen enjoyed spending time with her family, and friends. Her hobbies included reading, quilting, playing cards and bingo. She adored her companion, a Yorkshire Terrier named Buttons, who passed away last year. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at Royer Funeral Home in Grain Valley, MO. Memorial service will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to be made to the Cherokee Nation College Fund located in Tahlequah, OK.
