ammy Monroe Cushman, 81, of Raymore, MO, passed away at home on August 7, 2024.  A funeral will be held on August 16, 2024, at 1:00 PM, by his family at the Lord of Love Lutheran Church, 8306 E. 171st Street, Belton, MO, 64012.  Sam was born in Columbus, Kansas, on August 12, 1942, to Monte Vernon and Leona Mae (Scott) Cushman, and was the second of three children.  He is preceded in death by his parents; older brother Bob Cushman (Deborah), and younger sister Sandra Antrim (Tom).   He graduated from Joplin Missouri High School in 1960.  Sam played on the 1959 Joplin Eagles Baseball team that won the Missouri State Championship.  Sam also played on the 1959 Joplin Eagles Basketball team that participated in the Missouri State Championship games. Sam attended UMKC School of Pharmacy and graduated in 1965.

On December 30, 1967, Sam married Sue (Morrison) Maddox who brought to the marriage three children; Cole, Clay (deceased) and Lana.  Sue and her children followed Sam to Newberg, NY, where Sam began two years of service in the United States Army working in the Hospital Pharmacy at West Point, NY.  In 1973, Sam and Sue were blessed with the birth of their son, Monte Cushman. Sam worked in Kansas City, Missouri, for the family-owned pharmacy, McGrath Prescriptions, and was a pharmacist for over 40 years. Sam is survived by Sue and her sons Cole Maddox (Deanna) of Belton, MO, Monte Cushman (Christa) of Foley, AL, and daughter Lana Maddox, of Raymore, MO; sister-in-law Deborah Cushman, of Lee’s Summit, MO, grandchildren Damon Maddox, of Belton, MO, David Maddox (Renae) of Pleasant Hill, MO, Jessica Wineinger (Kyle) of Raytown, MO, Ciara Maddox, of Harrisonville, MO, Zach Oldham (Tayler) of KC, MO, and Tim Cushman, of Foley, AL; and many great-grandchildren.  Sam and Sue had a special relationship with Ryan & Mary Tinkler, and their daughters Leslie Chamers (Eric), and Allison Tinkler; Sam was a Kansas City Chiefs season ticket holder for 58 years. Sam enjoyed numerous other friendships and familial relationships.  The family suggests donations to the Gideons International and/or the Lord of Love Lutheran Church of Raymore, MO.
