Shannon Patrice Overbay passed away July 19, 2013 at her home after a long illness. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 23, 2013 at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO. Burial in Sni Mills Cemetery. Shannon was born on July 24, 1963 in Independence, MO, the daughter of Verne and Ruby (Johnson) Hord who preceded her in death. She was baptized and confirmed at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Shannon graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1981 and later served as office manager for Sports Radio 810, a career which she enjoyed immensely. When her illness no longer allowed her to work outside the home, Shannon greatly enjoyed fishing and pursuing various artistic projects. However, her greatest pride was in successfully raising her devoted daughter Brooke (Overbay) Brooks and becoming a grandmother to her much-adored granddaughter Kendall Belle Brooks. She will be remembered by friends and family as an incredibly social, compassionate, and generous person. Survivors include: daughter Brooke Brooks (David) and granddaughter Kendall Brooks of Buckner, MO, brother Bryan Hord (Dianne) of Oak Grove, MO, two sisters Marcia Hord of Kansas City and Sheila Honig (Ron) of Lee’s Summit, as well as two nieces Amanda Dowler and Rachel Honig. Shannon also leaves to deeply mourn her passing Tony Black of Raytown, MO, and her boyfriend and caregiver Bill Hill of Lee’s Summit, MO. The family extends a special thank you to Shannon’s long-time neurologist Samuel Lehman M.D. and assistant Claudia Lutheran for their untiring care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart. –Gandhi
