Shirley Jean (Warner) Baxter, 81, passed peacefully on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Oak Grove Nursing & Rehab in Oak Grove, Missouri. Services will be held on Friday, February 8th at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 2001 S. Broadway, Oak Grove, MO 64075, with visitation at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m., and burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Shirley was born on November 21, 1937 in Odessa, Missouri to Zach and Ethel Warner. She married the love of her life Aaron Elton Baxter on May 2, 1959 and had four children. Shirley was a secretary at Salley’s Propane for several years. Her family remembers her as a tremendous cook (especially
baking), her love of being with each of her kids and grandkids, volunteering at St. Jude Catholic Church, and her love of shopping all with a beaming smile!
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elton; four brothers: Juddie, George, Robert and Richard; and two sisters, Virginia-GG and Roberta-Sugar.
She is survived by a sister Naomi; four children: Bill Baxter, Jean Hansen (Corey), David Baxter (Alex) and Kathleen Parker (Luke); five grandchildren: Lara Wojtowicz (Scott), Kelsey Kaestner (Chris), Zach, Mason and Caleb Parker; and one great-grandchild, James Wojtowicz.
An excerpt from a poem she wrote as a young mother in 1963:
The Ordinary
This is just an ordinary day
With ordinary people and things
But there is something about it
That makes my heart want to sing.
Mom was humble and found the joy in the everyday and we know her heart is singing as she joins Elton, her parents, siblings and friends in heaven.

5 Aug 2020To me, Shirley was always so sweet, kind an gentle natured. Elton was the same way. No wonder she never remarried. I hope they enjoy a wonderful reunion and happy eternity.
