Sidney B. Deiter 86 of Grain Valley, MO passed away on September 28. He was born in Montclair, NJ, son of the late Sidney and Dorothy (Rassbach) Deiter, and a graduate of Newton High School, Newton, NJ. Sidney joined the US Air Force in 1961 and met his wife, Kathy, in Colorado. Sidney and Kathy began raising their family at Lake Lackawanna, Stanhope, NJ, following his time in the service. During that time, he was Chief of the Civil Defense Police Department. He also loved driving the tanker truck as a volunteer fireman for the Cranberry Lake Fire Dept. The family eventually moved from NJ to Lenexa, KS where he worked for Constar Plastics in Kansas City for thirty years.
After retirement, he loved to “tinker” in his shop making things on his milling machine and lathes. The boys break it, he fixed it. The boys wanted it, he made it. He also had a hobby of collecting firearms and building historic replicas of black powder pistols and rifles. Eric & Mike got him into modern firearms and he quickly took to up grading & customizing them as well. With a love of travel, Sidney and his family and dogs put many miles on his RV while driving throughout the USA. He also traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and Panama.
Sidney is survived by his sons Matthew, Micheal, Eric (Ricky) and his beloved dog, Brooke, of Grain Valley, MO; his granddaughters, Baylee, and her husband, Sam Culver, of Independence, MO, and Audri and her husband, Chase Hofferber, of Blue Hill, NE; as well as his sister, Mary D. Noel of Bridgeville, DE, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen (Koenigs) Deiter, his brother, John J. Deiter, and sisters Joan (Deiter) Basenese and Dorothy Ann (Deiter) Duff. A celebration of life will be held later. Memorial Contributions may be made to Great Plains SPCA, 5424 Antioch Drive, Merriam, KS 66202.
