Susie May (Brewer) McCaughey, 82, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away peacefully, Monday August 19, 2024 at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, surrounded by family members.
Susie was born on November 13, 1941, near New York, Iowa to Glen and Jaunita (Hudson) Brewer. She graduated from Green City High School in 1959. After graduating, she moved to Kansas City where she worked as a secretary in a law firm. It is in Kansas City that she met her one and only, Tom McCaughey. They married on February 18, 1961 and settled in Oak Grove, Missouri where they raised their four children. Aside from being a homemaker, she worked at the local grocery store before becoming the best grandma daycare provider.
Susie made fast friends wherever she went. She always gave a listening ear and words of encouragement to anyone who sought her out. Her faith was immeasurable, and it showed throughout her whole person welcoming so many into her home and heart.
Susie is survived by her three children, Brian (Stacey) of Leavenworth, Kansas, Mindy (Randy) of Oak Grove, Missouri, and Tim (Mike) of Balch Springs, Texas; grandchildren: Ashley (Tommy) McCaughey, Sarah (Chris) Carter, Ryan (Kayla) Bohannon, Raven (Nick) Bullimore, Colton (Livvy) Pollock and Kyler Pollock; great-grandchildren: Madalynn McCaughey, Rylee Ward, Colton and Owen Carter, and Emerson and Atticus Bullimore; siblings: Miles (Carolyn) Brewer of Keokuk, Iowa, Betty Spence of Wylie, Texas, and David (Meryl) Brewer also of Keokuk, Iowa; and many beloved brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; and precious friends from all over. She was preceded by her parents, her husband Tom in 2019, son Michael in 2014, two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, August 31st at the clubhouse at Oaks of Edgewood. Friends and family are welcomed to join from 11am-3pm. Immediate family will address those in attendance and offer a time to fellowship and celebrate her incredible life. Contributions can be made to KC Alzheimer’s association in honor of her late husband.
