Veta Joan Upton, 94, of Independence, Missouri, formerly of Kansas City, Kansas, died Saturday, December 22, 2018.  Memorial services will be held at a later date in Kincaid, KS.

Joan was born July 13, 1924, in Kincaid, Kansas, to Aca Carl and Hazel Fern (Whitcomb) Powers.  She was raised on the family farm near Kincaid.  On January 29, 1946, Joan married John Lewis Upton of Bronson, KS.  They lived in the area until 1952 and then moved to Kansas City, KS, where they raised their four children.  We will remember her most as our loving mother and grandmother.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Upton; her daughter, Jo Lynn Zuber; four sisters: Veva Jean Doerr (her twin), Shirley Grewing, Corinne Carpenter, and Arlene Powers; and one brother, Charles Powers.

Her survivors include three sons: John Upton (Nancy) of Kansas City, KS, Allen Upton (Colleen) of Lawson, MO, and Max Upton (Debbie) of Independence, MO; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Daniel Powers of OK, and Kenneth Powers of Kincaid, KS.
