Wilma Maxine Hattey, 96, of Odessa, Missouri, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 9, 2018. She passed at her son’s home surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 17th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO; burial in Concord Cemetery, Bates City, MO. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16th at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Concord Cemetery Association.
Wilma was born August 24, 1922, in Wabash, Ontario, Canada, the first child of Ammon and Lorena (Lime) Badder. The family moved to Independence, Missouri in 1925 and there she grew up, graduated from William Chrisman High School, and married Joseph A. Hattey of Bates City in 1942.
Maxine & Joe bought a farm at the corner of Z Highway and Cumberland Road in 1951. Their children, Dennis & Phyllis, grew up there and went to Odessa Schools. Maxine taught many children the love of Jesus at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Odessa and Bates City, MO. Maxine was a 4-H leader for many years in the Concord 4-H Club. She worked at Western Electric from 1962 – 1982. She canned thousands of quarts of green beans and tomatoes and shared her love of gardening and flowers with all who cared. She had a beautiful singing voice and loved to praise the Lord every way she could.
Maxine was a Saint to many who knew her. She loved the Lord and lived by her favorite scripture: Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Proverbs 3:5-6.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; her sister, Edith; three brothers: Charles, Robert, and Ward; one great granddaughter; and one great-great-grandson.
She leaves as her legacy her two children: Dennis Hattey, and Phyllis (Ralph) Jensen II; nine grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and fifteen great great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Mary Badder and Dona Hattey, both of Independence, and Jeanette Jackson of Houston, TX; brother-in-law, David Hattey of Liberty, MO; and many nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
