Wanda J. Philpott


Wanda Jean (Winkle) Philpott, 72, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2016, at the University of Kansas Medical Center.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 17th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO.  Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 18th at First Baptist Church, Oak Grove.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.

Wanda was born on September 23, 1943, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Alumbaugh) Winkle.  She graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1961. On August 24, 1962, Wanda married Larry Gene Philpott, and they lived most of their lives in Oak Grove, MO, where they raised their two children.  She worked as a medical transcriptionist for Business and Industry Health Group.  Wanda was a member of American Business Women’s Association.  She attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Warsaw, and First Baptist Church in Oak Grove.  Upon her retirement, Wanda lived at Truman Lake where she and Larry spent time with family and friends.  They enjoyed fishing, antiquing, day trips, and taking rides together in their golf cart.  She was a talented seamstress and an impeccable decorator.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert “Bob” Winkle; and her son, Jeffrey Wayne Philpott.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Larry Philpott of the home; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jeff Walton of Oak Grove; her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Harold Witte of Independence; four grandsons: Justin, Jordan, and Jenner Philpott of Blue Springs, and Jacob Swisegood, along with his fiancée, Deanna Shaw and son, Peyton; and one granddaughter, Alli Walton, all of Oak Grove; two nephews, Karl Witte of Smyrna, TN, and Joe Winkle of Washington D.C.; two nieces: Susan Fann of McGregor, TX, and Aimee Alexander of Independence; a great-niece and great-nephews; one uncle and aunt, Harold and Francis Winkle of North Kansas City; and numerous cousins and friends.
