Albert L. Mayhew


Albert Leroy Mayhew, 87, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2026. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Floral Hills East Cemetery.  Family and friends are welcome.

Albert was born on February 13, 1939, in Kennett, Missouri, to Lawrence and Lydia Mayhew. As a young boy, he moved to Oak Grove with his two sisters, riding in the back of a truck as the family made their new beginning. He attended Oak Grove schools, helped his father on the farm, and developed the hardworking spirit that stayed with him throughout his life.

Albert worked for 25 years for JM Fahey Construction, and then worked seven years for the local teamsters, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. Outside of work, he found great joy in the outdoors. He loved training his Brittany dogs to hunt quail and spent many treasured hours hunting deer and turkey. An avid fisherman, Albert especially enjoyed fishing for crappie, catfish, and walleye.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Mayhew and Lydia Rigdon; his brother, Homer Rigdon; and his sister, Elaine Sprinkle.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Mayhew of Independence; sister, Esther Ray of Warrensburg; daughters, Tamara Boman and husband Robert Cox of Blue Springs, and Melissa Federici of Chandler, Arizona; stepdaughter, Tammy Sage and husband Brian Ahring of Independence; stepson, Mark Sage and wife Renee of Elizabeth, Colorado;  grandchildren, Jessica Boman, Jacob Boman, Kylah Federici, Noah Federici, Jeremy Sage, Alysha Sage, and Matt Fullerton; along with five great-grandchildren; Kiara, Kaden, Micah, Rylen, Quentin.  Albert will be remembered for his love of family, the outdoors, and the simple pleasures of life. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
