Bernard H. Kohler


Bernard Harold “Bernie” Kohler, 70, of Independence, Missouri, passed away March 14, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO. He will be cremated and inurned at a later date in Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery, Higginsville.

Bernie was born on November 21, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Harold R. and Clara I. (Straeter) Kohler. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964, where he was involved in Army Intelligence. Bernie married Ann R. Macdonald on December 13, 1971. He was self-employed and worked his entire life in various aspects of the hotel/motel industry. He was an adventurer and individualist,, who enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing backgammon and ping-pong, and traveling. Bernie was always loving, understanding, reasonable, and willing to help his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

His survivors include his wife of 35 years, Ann Kohler of the home; his son, Carl Kohler of St. Joseph, MO; his daughter, Carisa Diesburg & her husband, Todd, of Conifer, CO; his granddaughter, Zoie Kohler; and his mother, Clara Kohler of Independence, MO.
