Billy L. Boyd of Independence, Missouri passed away July 9, 2015, he was 90 years of age. Born in May of 1925 in Fort Smith, Arkansas he spent most of his life in the Kansas City area.  He joined the Navy in 1943 at the age of 17 and saw action in both the Atlantic and Pacific, his ship was hit by a kamikaze aircraft during the invasion of Okinawa and went on to be among the occupying forces in Japan.

Returning from the War he met Helen McClure who would become his wife of 67 years. He is survived by his wife and four children; David Boyd of Lee’s Summit, Beth Bolyard of Independence, Keith Boyd of Independence, and Linda Callahan of Independence, and also grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be interred at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Higginsville.
