Brenda L. Bell

Brenda Lynne Bell passed away on September 18, 2025.

She was born on October 10, 1943, in Sullivan County, MO, to Wood Dean and Marjorie Eloise (Fisher) Smith. Raised as a country girl, Brenda often reminisced about her humble beginnings, including her childhood without indoor plumbing and the many adventures she shared with her sister, Norma. She attended Humphry Elementary School before graduating from Chillicothe High School in 1961. Brenda pursued higher education at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University), earning a degree in English. Her passion for teaching led her to become a high school English teacher in Hamilton and Blue Springs, MO, where she touched many lives with her dedication and love for her students.

After leaving the teaching profession, Brenda found success as a realtor with REMAX. She was a trusted professional, earning the Cooperative Spirit Award five times during her tenure at the Blue Springs office. It was through this career that she formed lasting friendships with clients, fellow agents, and business associates. Brenda’s love for people was evident in everything she did, and she always made those around her feel welcomed and cared for.

On January 23, 1999, Brenda married the love of her life, William L. Bell, on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Shortly after their wedding, they bought a lake home on Lake of the Ozarks in Sunrise Beach, MO, where they spent countless joyful moments. They graciously opened their lake home to many family members and friends and created many cherished memories for their guests. It was clear that Brenda poured her heart into every relationship she had.

Brenda’s faith was central to her life. She was a woman of deep conviction, whose belief in God sustained her through life’s challenges. The loss of her son Bill in 2003 was a heartbreak that tested her strength, but she leaned on her faith to find peace and healing. Brenda lived her faith. She became a Eucharistic Minister, visiting those in hospitals, nursing homes, rehab centers, and their own homes to bring communion, a warm smile, and heartfelt prayers. She also volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs and was an active member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church, where she honored her son’s memory by donating a small statue to the church’s memory garden.  Her helpful spirit will live on after her death as she chose to donate her body to science.

Brenda had a passion for gardening, reading, music, travel, and sports—especially cheering on her Royals, Chiefs, and Mizzou Tigers. Brenda was adventurous, smart, determined, compassionate, and kind. She had a way of making everyone around her feel special, and her zest for life was contagious.  Brenda’s memory will live on in all of us who were touched by her love, kindness, and unwavering faith.

Brenda was preceded in death by her son, William Wood Magie; her parents, Wood and Marjorie Smith; and her brother-in-law, Bill Parsons. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill Bell; her son, Michael Magie; stepsons, John (Elizabeth) Bell and Andy (Julie) Bell; her sister, Norma Parsons; grandchildren, Maya Magie and her mother Gayathri; Natalie Bell, Katlyn (Ian) Hartford; Ashley Bell; Drew (Elizabeth) Bell; Kyle (Katie) Wilkerson and Kurt Wilkerson; 8 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, and many friends who were blessed to have known her.

Visitation and funeral services will be held at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, 805 NW R D Mize Road, Blue Springs, MO on Thursday, September 25, 2025.  Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am.  A funeral mass will commence at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. John LaLande Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
