Brenda Sue Washam, 58, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence. She will be cremated. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 2-6 pm on Sunday, June 16th at the Independence Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, 18300 E. State Route 78, Independence, MO. Brenda was born April 1, 1955, in Aurora, MO, the daughter of Sam & Lily (Smith) Meek. She was married to Jesse Sciortino for 22 years and they have remained best friends.
Brenda loved attending her grandsons various activities and going to eat at Red Lobster. She was formerly employed as a pet groomer for Designer Paws in Lee’s Summit.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents and two beloved dogs: Winston & Herbie.
Brenda is survived by a daughter: Denise Shafer & fiancée Mark Wilson of Blue Springs; two grandsons: Nicholas & Ryan Shafer, and soon-to-be grandson: Dalton Wilson; her former husband & best friend: Jesse Sciortino of Blue Springs; two brothers: Dennis Meek of Kansas City and Larry Meek of Jefferson City; one sister: Beverly Keeth of Tuscumbia, MO; her dog: Antjuan; special life-long friend: Karen Castellano and good friend: Christine Winchester; and several special nieces & nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions for her grandsons college fund.
