Brent Rodney Barnett, 13, of Blue Springs, Missouri, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, while at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 23rd at Timothy Lutheran Church, Blue Springs; burial in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22nd at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO. Contributions may be made to Timothy Lutheran Scholarship Fund or Lift Fund.
Brent was born February 5, 1999, in Independence, MO, the son of Rodney Elvin and Becky Lou (Hollrah) Barnett. He was a 6th grade student at Timothy Lutheran School in Blue Springs and was a member of Timothy Lutheran Church. Brent enjoyed bowling & video games, taking walks with his family, and visiting his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Brent had an undiagnosed disease that he started battling around the age of five. It started out causing him slight balance problems and progressed to confining him to a wheelchair. Throughout this time, no matter how the disease affected him, Brent remained a positive, happy boy. He inspired all of those around him with his sweet smile and great attitude. Brent had many wonderful doctors at CMH who worked hard trying to diagnose his disease and manage his symptoms. His therapists at CMH and in the Blue Springs School District were always cheerful and positive. His teachers and friends at Timothy Lutheran School always welcomed him with loving open arms.
Brent is preceded in death by his grandfather, Vance Hollrah. His survivors include his parents, Rodney & Becky Barnett of the home; sister, Briana Barnett of Lee’s Summit, MO; paternal grandparents, Elvin & Karen Barnett of Grain Valley, MO; maternal grandmother, Linda Hollrah of St. Charles, MO; aunts & uncles: Russell & Carolyn Barnett, Wesley & Teresa Barnett, Mike & Jeanne Reiley, Mike & Kay Pautler; and cousins: Bailey Barnett, Brooklyn Barnett, Nick Pautler & Leah Pautler.
