
Carol (Wheatley) Sawyer Gauld age 88 passed away on November 11, 2021.
Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 at The Everlasting Church of Jesus Christ in the Latter Day 14480 East 42nd Street South, Independence, MO 64055. Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. There will be a luncheon at the church after the service, everyone is invited.
Carol is survived by her husband, Frank Gauld. Carol and Frank were married on February 8, 2014, after both were widowed. This marriage brought more children and grandchildren into her life. Carol was born in Wray, CO on March 16, 1933, one of eight children born to Roy Rosco Wheatley (1891-1965) and Fern Luella (Allison) Wheatley (1896-1988). She grew up in Vernon, CO where she attended school and graduated from Vernon High School in 1951. A few years after graduation, Carol moved to Independence, MO for job opportunities and to be close to family members. Carol married Paul Vinal Sawyer on August 15, 1959 in Independence, MO. Paul passed away on September 30, 2012. One son, Scott Paul Sawyer, was born on January 28, 1969. Scott passed away on October 23, 2014. Both are buried at Swan Lake Memorial Park in Grain Valley, MO. Carol’s two granddaughters and great grandchildren brought much joy to her life. Ashley and husband Elijah Lefkowitz and sons, Sawyer Paul (1-2-2016) and Lincoln (3-27-2018) live in Fort Myers, FL. Felicia and Danny Bazerra and son Daniel Grey (3-12-21) and another child on the way due in April also live in Fort Myers, FL. Carol and Paul opened their home to three of Carol’s sister’s children after her sister could no longer care for them – a niece, Betty Jo (Woodruff) Bowman (husband Sam of Independence), and two nephews, Jerry Woodruff (wife Paulette of Overland Park, KS) and, Dennis Woodruff (wife Betty of Littleton, CO). Carol and Paul cared for each of them through their high school years.
Carol is survived by one sister, Milda (Wheatley) Edson and her husband Bob Edson of Branson, MO. She is also survived by many cousins and nieces and nephews, including great-great nieces and nephews.
Carol was a woman of strong faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was always ready to help those in need. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
