Cassandra Jo “Cassie” Okurut, 32, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, July 17th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment in Perdee Cemetery, Grain Valley, Missouri. Cassandra Jo Wilson Okurut was born March 8, 1989 in St Louis Park, Minnesota. She was the first born of Brian and Jeri Wilson and so adored. Cassie was the first girl born on the Wilson side in 3 generations, so she was often clothed in pink from head to toe, until she chose blue as her favorite color! While Cassie and her Mama were close, especially in her adult years, Cassie had her daddy wrapped around her tiny little finger at birth. It was with him that she made her first trip to Uganda and found her second home.
Cassie was smart, beautiful, quiet, a beautiful writer, an attentive listener, and generous giver and lover of all – most of all her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She heard the call of Christ on her life at a summer youth camp and set her heart on following Him wherever He led her in Missions. In 2013, He led her to be a part of the World Race, an 11 country in 11 months, Mission Trip. It was on the Race that she met her best friend, “her person”, Sarah Riddlebee, and many other lifelong friends. After her return, Cassie felt the call to Uganda full time. It was there that she met Stephen Okurut and they united in ministry, founding, Kitiibwa Ministries, in 2016 and marriage on March 31, 2017. They quickly added to their family when Talitha Koum Okurut was born in July 2019 and Zemira Atenge Okurut in June 2021. Cassie finished her race here on earth on June 23, 2021 after fighting with everything in her. She ran that race to the Glory of God and we know she is now standing with Christ in heaven.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen, daughters Talitha and Zemira. Her mom, Jeri and dad, Brian, sisters, Aryn Homan, Jana Wilson and brother, Jason Wilson and Grandparents Lanny and Jane Wilson. As well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends from around the world.
