Charles A. Day

Charles “Chuck” Allen Day, 83, of Oak Grove, MO passed away on Jan 1, 2023, of natural causes. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Chuck was born the oldest of two children to Palmer and Janice (Bruening) Day in Kansas City, MO. Chuck grew up in Higginsville, MO, and graduated from Higginsville High School in 1957.  He went on to one year of college before deciding to join the Navy in 1959.

He served 3 years in Japan as a radio operator and described those years as some of his favorite.  After the Navy he returned to the United States and worked in various sales positions. The experience he gained in sales would serve him well in the future.

In 1964 Chuck met his future wife Judy Schrunk in Omaha, NE. They married on September 7, 1965. Judy had two children from a previous marriage, Max and Suzanne. In 1967 Chuck and Judy added to the family with their first daughter, Cynthia. Two years later they welcomed their second daughter, Christine into the world. He worked hard to make sure they were taken care of and felt loved.

In 1972 the family moved to acreage and had a fun farm full of animals including horses, goats, many dogs, a pet fox, and emus just to name a few.

In 1982 Chuck and Judy opened their first retail store in Grandview, MO. Chuck’s Boots was a huge success and they expanded to many locations across Missouri over the next 10 years.

Chuck enjoyed collecting antique fruit jars, restoring his 1928 Oakland (Oldsmobile), and traveling. He visited many locations across the world with a safari vacation to Zimbabwe Africa being one of the most memorable. He was also an avid swimmer and swam a mile a day for 20 years. He enjoyed swimming so much he built his own covered lap pool.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father Palmer Day, his mother Janice Day, former wife Judy, and his beloved cousin Amy Connaghan, who was like a sister to him. He is survived by his daughters Cynthia Day and Christine Crane and stepson Max Day. He is also survived by his little brother Steve Day, cousins Bosh Bruening and Tom Bruening, and several nieces and nephews.
