Charles D. Shrout


Charles David Shrout, 95, of Independence, MO, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m.  Friday, July 27th at the First Christian Church in Independence.  The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.  Family inurnment will be in Salem Association Cemetery in Independence.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite church or organization of your choice, in honor of Charles.

Charles was born August 10, 1922, in the family home on Hwy. 24, the son of Thomas and Bernice (Jones) Shrout.  He was a lifelong farmer along with his twin brother De.  Charles quit

farming at  the age of 92.  He was a dedicated member of the First Christian Church and while being recognized with numerous farm awards, his greatest joy was his family.

Charles is survived by his wife of 69 years, Harriett Lee (Swearingen) Shrout; four sons: David (Joanne), Paul (Diana), Charles (Kelly) and Norris (Brenda) Shrout; one sister, Elizabeth Legg of Jacksonville, OR; eight grandchildren: Beth McDow, Joshua, Chad, Jon, Adam, Robert, Kevin and Steven; five great-grandchildren: Jensen, Charlotte, Charles, Penelope and Barrett Price; as well as nieces, nephews, and first cousin, Paula Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas Shrout and twin DeWitt Shrout; and two infant grandsons, Justin and William.
