Charles Leonard Starr, 89, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 23rd at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence; burial in New Salem Cemetery, Independence. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Charles was born on April 2, 1928 in Courtney, Missouri, the son of Frank and Minnie Bell (Osbourn) Starr. He lived in Windsor, MO, from 1984 to 2012. Charles was a retired brick mason. He loved fishing, sitting on his porch and watching animals and wildlife. He also liked going to garage sales and collecting things.
Charles is survived by one daughter, Betty Ford (Bob) of Independence; one son, Jerry Starr (Julie) of Lee’s Summit, MO; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty (Todd) Starr; his daughter, Brenda Landis; five brothers; and one sister.
