Charles R. Brown


Charles Ray Brown, 79, of Grain Valley, Missouri, was called home by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, January 10, 2011, with his wife and three sons by his side.  He was born in Grain Valley on February 20, 1931, the third child of Roy and Ruth Heidelberger Brown and was affectionately called Charlie by his family.  He graduated from Grain Valley High School in 1949 and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.  He married Marolyn Moore of Tarsney Lakes on June 15, 1956, and was employed by Kansas City Power and Light for 39 years retiring in 1991.

Charlie was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.  He is survived by Marolyn, his wife of 54 years, and son Clete of the home, his son and daughter-in-law Carl and Linda Brown of Salina, KS, and grandchildren Travis of Olathe, KS, Jordan and Trent of the home; his son and daughter-in-law Clifford and Dena Brown of St. Charles, MO, and grandchildren Lauren and Tyler of the home; and grandsons Gale & Joseph Harper.  He leaves two brothers, Bill and Bettie Brown of Blue Springs, MO, Jim and Laurel Brown of Grain Valley, and four sisters, Mary Morris of Bonners Ferry, ID, Margaret Reeder, Doris Officer, and Florene and Randol Wiggins, all of Grain Valley, sister-in-law Helen Moore Harrison of Kansas City, MO and brothers-in-law Gary Moore of Kansas City and Kenny Moore and wife Coralee of Independence, MO.  Uncle Charlie also leaves 38 nephews and nieces and many great-great nephews and nieces.

He loved to garden, talk about days gone by and has left a written legacy of his thoughts and stories.  Charlie will be missed by his loving family, a host of friends, and former coworkers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley; burial in Valley Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 14th at the funeral home.
