Charlie R. Johnson, age 95, of Independence, MO passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016, after a long battle with Leukemia. He passed peacefully at his home in Independence, MO with his loving wife and family at his side.
Charlie was the sixth child born to Robert Coleman and Lulu Belle Johnson in Adrian, MO on July 10, 1921. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1939. In August of 1943, Charlie was drafted by the US Army and went to serve his country in the Western Pacific Theater. At the completion of his service, he received an Honorable Discharge from Fort Leavenworth, KS and returned home for a brief time. He then moved to Kansas City in order to attend the Kansas City School of Watch-Making. On November 22, 1947, he married Marilyn Jane Libby at Central Bible Church in Kansas City, MO.
Charlie began his career with the railroad in 1950, where he spent 30 years as a General Sales Agent. He was past President of the Kansas City, MO and Topeka, KS Traffic Clubs, as well as a proud member of the Masonic Scottish Rite, the Abdullah Shrine of Topeka, and the Ararat Shrine of Kansas City. In 2015, he received his 50-year member award from the Masonic Lodge.
Charlie is survived by Marilyn Johnson, his loving wife of 69 years. He is also survived by his three children: Beverley Jane (and Charles).Rogers of Topeka, KS; Stephen Curtis (and Sylvia) Johnson of Garland, TX; Suzanne Babette (and Jeff) Jennings of Norman, OK. Charlie was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, as well as four and a half great-grandchildren, and his loving dog, Miss Angelina.
