Clarence L. Moore


Clarence Lee “Sam” Moore, 91, of Independence, Missouri passed away February 21, 2010, at North Kansas City Hospital, as the result of an auto accident on February 18th.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 28th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO; burial at a later date.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Sam was born on July 15, 1918, in Mercer County, MO, the son of Lawrence B. and Bernice M. (Marks) Moore.  He married Kathryn M. Varner on September 14, 1940.  Clarence served in the Army Air Corp during WWII.  He retired as a truck driver for Yellow Freight in 1987, where he was known as the “Midnight Special”.  Clarence was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Grain Valley.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eva Gannon; brother, Mark Moore; brother, Andrew “Andy” Moore; and granddaughter, Kellie Bryant.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Kathryn of the home; three daughters: Candy McCarty & her husband, Lester of Kansas City, MO, Sandra Villarreal of Independence, MO, & Melody Hughes & her husband, Randy of Independence, MO; grandchildren: Lori & Gary Locker, Lisa & Scott Towler, Jason Welch & fiancé Shelly Farmer, P.J. Sullivan, & Kaedi Villarreal; ten great-grandchildren; one brother: Kenneth “Amos” Moore & his wife, Peggy; one sister: Virginia Couchman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
