Dale R. Douthat


Dale Richard Douthat, 80, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.  Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18th with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Dale was born October 13, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Richard W. and Ruth E. (Manuel) Douthat.  He was known as a very kind person.  Dale loved to travel and fly planes.  He liked to study Spanish, loved nature and the outdoors, and was always doing his part to take care of the environment.  Most of all, Dale loved his family and would provide for them in any way he could.

Dale is survived by his wife of 60 years, Fern (Baker) Douthat; daughters: Vanessa Douthat of Kansas City MO, Leisha Glascock (Brad) of Blue Springs MO; son, Trent Douthat of Independence; brothers, Loren and Michael Douthat; sisters, Mary Ellen Jensen and Margaret Carlson; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other family.  He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Adam Willis; and daughter-in-law, Michelle Wilson-Douthat.
