Dennis Allen Doty, 51, of Grain Valley, MO, died suddenly on Thursday, September 11, 2008, while on a work project in Springfield, MO. Funeral services will be 10 am Monday, September 15th at the Blue Springs Christian Church, 7920 S. 7 Highway, Blue Springs, MO 64015. The family will receive visitors from 4-6 pm on Sunday, September 14th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO 64029. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Grain Valley Alumni Association, the Grain Valley Historical Society, or Wayside Waifs.
Dennis was born on November 23, 1956, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Robert S. and Erma (Baumgardner) Doty. He lived in Jackson County all of his life. Dennis graduated from Grain Valley High School in 1975 and was active in sports, theater, and music. He was a 1979 graduate of Culver-Stockton College where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. After college, Dennis acted in community theaters in Hannibal, Higginsville, and Independence, MO. During this time Dennis was often a substitute teacher for the Grain Valley School District. He was a member of the Grain Valley Christian Church.
Dennis was always ready to attend any sporting event, but particularly anything Mizzou. He was a huge Tigers fan. He was a history buff and especially loved Civil War history and traveling to battlefields.
Dennis was always employed in construction. For the last 12 years he was a glazier with L.O. McCurry Co., Inc. His employer and co-workers were like family to him. Thanks for being close to him.
Dennis had a gregarious personality with innumerable lifelong friends who meant the world to him. He always kept in close touch with classmates from high school and college.
Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents, niece (Audra Layne Doty), brother (Robert L. Doty) and father (Robert S. Doty). Dennis was the “baby” of the family and his passing will leave a huge void in all our hearts. Survivors include his mother: Erma Baumgardner Doty of Grain Valley,; brother: Larry Doty and wife Sandie of Lee’s Summit; sister: Kathy Doty of Grain Valley; and sister-in-law: Donita Doty of Blue Springs. Dennis also had a Greek Foreign Exchange Student Brother, Costas Kotzambasis of Sydney, Australia. Dennis was “Uncle Denny” to seven nieces and nephews and four great-nieces and great-nephews.
