Dolores McCormick Cook


Dolores McCormick Cook, 96, a longtime resident of Independence, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017.  A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. November 8th at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home; burial in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens, Independence.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Glenwood Methodist Church in Independence, MO.

Dolores was born May 5, 1921, in Kremlin, OK, the daughter of Claude and Gertrude McCormick.  She graduated from Central Missouri University and was a teacher in the Kansas City School District for 44 years.  After her retirement, she continued to tutor children for many years.  Dolores loved farming, gardening, music, and ceramic making, and devoted much of her life to the support of her family.  She was a dedicated Christian and a longtime member of Glenwood Methodist and Rockwood Baptist churches in Independence. 

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved brother, Harold McCormick. 

Her survivors include her sister, Rosalie Utsler; five nephews: Mike, Brent, & Brian McCormick, and Warren & Mark Utsler; and many other extended family members.
