Dorman Eugene Rippee, 71, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away Sunday, August 2, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO; burial in Valley Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5th at the funeral home.
Dorman was born on September 18, 1937, in Foil, Missouri, the son of Martin L. and Lana E. Rippee. He moved back and forth between Missouri and Michigan the first 9 years because of his father’s job and farming. They settled on the farm in Midland, Michigan in 1948. He has 2 brothers, Jerry M. Rippee and Ronald L. Rippee, and 1 sister, Donna J. Tuttle.
Dorman attended a 1-room school from 1948 to 1951. He graduated from Midland High School in 1955 and continued his education at Michigan State University in E. Lansing, MI.
He married Betty Ann Draves in August 1958. They have 4 children: Dawn R. Short, Kansas City, MO, Robin A. Wright, Blue Springs, MO, Daniel B. Rippee, Grain Valley, MO, and Timothy J. Rippee, Arnold, MO. They have 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Dorman worked in retailing from 1961 until retirement in 2002. He managed W.T. Grant stores and Wal-Mart stores for 16 years. He became a Sales Rep. For Ben Franklin Co. and The Gerson Co. his remaining working years. His position moved him to Michigan, Illinois, and Missouri over the years.
He attended the Church of God in all the cities he lived in and served the Lord in many capacities, such as Bus Ministries, on Boards, and Ushering. He currently attended Woods Chapel Church of God in Lee’s Summit, MO.
