Edith L. King, 86, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 29th at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence; burial in New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 28th at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Eastside Baptist Church for the Nigerian Orphanage Project.
Edith was born January 16, 1928, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ray C. and Edith L. (Whitaker) Ladd. She was a homemaker and devoted mother & grandmother. Edith was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, family gatherings, traveling, and gardening, especially her flowers.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert King; an infant daughter, Karen Lea King; and an infant brother.
Her survivors include daughter, Joyce Marie & Ed Donovan of Independence; son, Robert Lee & Elena King of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
