
Francisco D. Ahumada, 84, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at The Groves Nursing Home in Independence, Missouri. A visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2017 with funeral services following at 3:00 p.m. at Royer Funeral Home in Grain Valley. In lieu of flowers, you may choose to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) to help raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
Francisco (Frank) was born to Hilario Ahumada and Magdalena De La Cruz in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico on April 2, 1933. He leaves behind his wife, Penny, of 25 years. He is survived by his children: Francisco Javier (Luly) Ahumada of Kansas City, KS, Carlos Ahumada of North Carolina, Geraldo (Laura) Ahumada of Kansas City, KS, Rene (Jackie) Ahumada of Kansas City, MO, and Patricia (Ruben) Melendez of Dallas, TX; stepchildren: Lora (Thomas) Holt of Grain Valley, MO, James Cox of Kansas City, MO, and Lisa Cox of Harrisonville, MO; 25 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
During his lifetime, he served as Mayor in La Perla, Chihuahua, Mexico before moving to the United States where he worked for KCS Railroad and later as a Supervisor for the Board of Public Utilities in Kansas City, KS. He remained at BPU until his retirement in 1996.
Frank, known to many as “Pancho”, loved to tell stories of his childhood, his life in Mexico and his experiences after coming to the US. He loved cooking and listening to music. In his retirement, he enjoyed building birdhouses and gardening. Pancho Ahumada will be remembered for his sense of humor, generosity and his kind heart. He had many friends and was loved dearly.
