
Freddie Franklin McKinzie, 86, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 17, 2019 at St. Mary’s Village in Blue Springs, MO. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 21st at the Oak Grove Campus of Grace United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Phoenix Hospice or The Diabetes Association.
Freddie was born February 7, 1933, in Chilhowee, Missouri, the son of Walter Claire Sr. and Maude Sarah (Wassmann) McKinzie. He was a member of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. Freddie worked at Sears for 40 years, retiring in September 1990 as a Warehouse Superintendent. He was a member of the Oak Grove Campus of Grace United Methodist Church. Freddie enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, spending time with his family and his cats, and he especially loved gardening.
His survivors include his wife, Vertie McKinzie of the home; daughter, Anita McWhirt (Rick) of Lee’s Summit, MO; two sons: Walter McKinzie (Brenda) of Oak Grove, and Alan McKinzie (Phyllis) of Richardson, TX; brother, Walter Claire McKinzie Jr. (Sandra) of Versailles, MO; five grandchildren: Amanda McWhirt, Jeff McWhirt, Brian Hughes, Toby Young, and Chiarra McKinzie; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends. Freddie was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Carter.

2 Oct 2020I will miss all of our love hate encounters every morning as you pass by me before breakfast. I’m going to miss cleaning all of the maker off your hands before I left my shift ! You were a strong guy, you definitely didnt leave this world without a fight. The day I heard you passed I went to kfc and ordered chicken! We all know how much you loved kfc!
