Gary Corbet Mainard, 81 of Blue Springs, Missouri died March 25th at home after a 3-year battle with cancer. He was born December 26, 1933 in Garden City, Missouri to Chester and Grace Mainard of Oak Grove, the third of five children. As a teenage he was very involved in music and after high school performed in a band with his brothers called “Outcasts”, music was always a passion for him. His first job was as a journeyman bricklayer, he went on to become the owner of his own construction company, Mainard Masonry and later installed pools with his brother, Kenny. In 1982 he opened a Home Town Variety store in downtown Blue Springs. He and his wife, Juanita closed that store and opened a swimming pool supply store, Swim Center also in Blue Springs and employed their son, Rusty along with all of the grandchildren throughout the years. As his sons grew up he loved coaching baseball for both of his sons and many other boys in the Blue Springs area. Many remember him spending hours on the field with them after working all day. He and his wife Juanita celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 11th of this year. Together they have two sons, Rick and Rusty. He is survived by his wife, Juanita and his sons, Rick Mainard and his wife, Leanne of Lake Lotawana and Rusty Mainard of Blue Springs and his ex-wife Rhonda Stayton of Greenwood along with grandchildren Rachel O’Shaughnessy and her husband Ryan of Lake Lotawana, Matt Mainard and his wife Amber of Blue Springs; Amanda Gregory and her husband Curtis of Harrisonville, Meagan Long and her husband Todd of Blue Springs and Bailee Mainard of Kansas City; great grandchildren – Jarrett and Emma O’Shaughnessy; Landon, Logan and Alyssa Mainard; and Lucille and Brayden Gregory. He is also survived by his brothers; Chester, Kenneth, and Douglas and his sister, Alta Joan. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the KU Cancer Center in Lee’s Summit for their work on behalf of Gary and for the wonderful care of Vitas Hospice Care. There will be an informal family gathering to celebrate Gary on April 4th, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the home of Rick and Leanne Mainard. Donations to KU Cancer Center or Vitas Hospice in honor of Gary would be welcomed.
