Gary Don Gilleland, 71, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 7, 2009 at John Knox Village Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 11th at Oakwood Baptist Church, 7900 Lee’s Summit Rd., Kansas City, MO 64139; burial in Floral Hills East, Lee’s Summit. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society or Gideon Bible Distribution.
Gary was born on June 18, 1938, in Dallas, TX, the son of Robert M. and Gertrude A. (Layne) Gilleland. He married Louise Nebgen in February 1965. Gary served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked in sales. Gary was a very proud member of the Gideon Group and Oakwood Baptist Church. He loved his grandchildren very much.
His survivors include his wife of 44 years, Louise Gilleland of the home; son, Doug Gilleland, his wife Heidi, & their children, Kylie & Reese, of Lee’s Summit; daughter, Pam Fossey, her fiancé Roger Bush, & her children, Dayton, Abby, & Devyn, of Lee’s Summit; son, Don Gilleland McIntosh & his son, Alex, of Parkridge, IL; daughter, Kala Jo Reyna of Flower Mound, TX; four brothers, Murray, Bobby, Glynn, & Ron, all of Dallas, TX; and his special dog, Marco.
