Gary Steven Olson, 47, of Bates City, MO passed away Monday, December 21, 2009 at the Kansas City Hospice House after an eleven-month battle against lung cancer. A visitation will be held 2-3 pm on Wednesday December 23rd at Royer Funeral Home in Grain Valley. A memorial service will follow at 3pm. Prayer and song to be held at grave side. Pallbearers will be Steven Smith, Logan Olson, Greg McMichael, and Mel Parks.
Gary was born on September 16, 1962 to Ronald and Jessie Olson. He had served the Kansas City area as an electrician with the IBEW Local 124 for many years. Gary was a devoted Chiefs fan. He also had a great interest in deep-sea fishing and music. Gary devoted his life to being a dedicated and loving husband, father, and papa.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother Jessie Olson and sister Lori Bird.
His survivors include his wife of 20 years: Kelly; two sons: Steven Smith & wife Ashton and Logan Olson; two daughters: Melisha Monteer and Kim Olson; two granddaughters: Shana Monteer and Heather Metcalfe; and two grandsons on the way: Jayden McMichael and Brycen Smith; his father: Ronald Olson and stepmother Iretha; brother: Randy Olson; and four sisters: Karen Olson, Barbara Smith, Rhonda Bowers and Sonja Olson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House.
