Glen D. Gray


Glen D. Gray, 80, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Kansas City Hospice House.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26th at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence; burial in New Salem Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Glen was born October 31, 1934, in Grant City, Missouri, the son of Boyd and Gladice (Fish) Gray.  He was a truck driver for Armco Steel for 40 years, retiring in 1995.  Glen loved training bird dogs and was an avid hunter.  He also enjoyed watching the Royals, working in the yard, playing cards, going on vacations, especially cruises, and most of all, spending time with his loved ones.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 37 years, Marvel Gray; step-daughter, Jackie Taylor; three brothers; and three sisters.

His survivors include three children: Glenda Martin of Independence, Richard & Pam Gray of Independence, and Curtis & Tami Gray of Osceola, MO; three step-children: Rod & Rebecca VanVelsan of Lone Jack, MO, Randy VanVelsan of Independence, and Dana Cruz of Independence; son-in-law, Spencer Taylor; and many wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
