H. Byrne Connaghan

Hubert “Byrne” Connaghan packed many chapters into his life of 77 years. He was an army veteran, a housewares buyer for Mattingly’s, a Nurseryman (co-owner of Bruening’s Nurseries in Higginsville, Missouri), a long-haul trucker, a heavy equipment operator, and an inveterate tinkerer (“You know how we could make this even better…?”). He married the love of his life, Amy Bruening Wikoff of Higginsville, in 1976. She preceded him in death in 1983.

He is also preceded in death by his parents, Hubert William and Kathryn O’Brien Connaghan of Lenexa, Kansas; his sister Margot Sue Sturgeon; 14 dogs and 1.6 cats.

He will be sorely missed by his three daughters, Jennie Wikoff Meinershagen of Montana, Jamie Wikoff Coogler of Vermont, and Lesley Kent Wikoff of Washington state; four granddaughters and one grandson; his sister Mary Elizabeth Goodwin; five brothers, Patrick Joseph, John Robert, Philip David, Michael Anthony, Timothy James; 24 grand nieces and nephews; his faithful indian companion, Dottie, and the elusive, ungrateful Liza.

A scattering of his ashes will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 in Ebenezer Church Cemetery, Bone Hill & Highway H, Levasy, MO, followed by a family gathering at 1:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to a local animal shelter or Humane Society are suggested.

Arrangements:  Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO   816-690-4441
